Virtual Physiotherapy Across Atlantic Provinces - Frequently Asked Questions
What is this about?
Some physiotherapy care can now be provided virtually across Atlantic provinces under a shared agreement between provincial regulators. This applies only in specific situations.
When does this apply?
This applies only when:
- The physiotherapist and patient are in different Atlantic provinces, and
- The virtual care is part of an ongoing care plan managed by a provincial Health Authority or Crown Corporation (for example, through the public health system)
Does this apply to private virtual physiotherapy?
No.
This agreement does not apply to private virtual physiotherapy services. Private providers must continue to follow existing provincial rules.
Who makes sure the care is safe?
When this agreement applies, the physiotherapist's home province regulator remains responsible for oversight. Physiotherapists must still follow professional standards, privacy laws, and safety requirements.
What if I have a concern or complaint?
If you have concerns about your care, you can contact the physiotherapy regulator in the province where your physiotherapist is regulated. Information on how to do this is available on the regulator's website.
