Important Update: Changes to Licensure Pathways with the PEICPT
The Prince Edward Island College of Physiotherapy (PEICPT) is announcing the conclusion of the Alternate Plan process for licensure, effective May 1, 2026.
As of this date, applicants seeking licensure with the PEICPT will be required to successfully complete the Canadian Physiotherapy Examination (CPTE) administered by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR).
Upon successful completion of the CAPR examination, eligible applicants may apply directly to the General Registry with the PEICPT and will not be required to practice under supervision. These changes align PEICPT licensure requirements with national entry to practice standards for physiotherapists in Canada and the provincial Regulated Health Professions Act of PEI.
The Alternate Plan process will remain in effect until April 30, 2026. During this period, applicants must have successfully completed the PCE written component, secured appropriate employment, and have an approved supervisor.
PEICPT members who are currently registered as PT Residents will complete the remainder of their residency under the Alternate Plan, including the Alternate Examination, prior to transferring to the General Registry.
Applicants considering licensure are encouraged to review the updated registration requirements or contact PEICPT for further information.
