Diagnostic Images Access Information and Forms

Updated January 06, 2025

This is an important update on the information about ordering of diagnostic images in the form of X-rays.

Registrants who completed a Diagnostic Imaging course—please ensure that you have submitted your application in the HMS under special authorizations. The registrar will gather the names monthly and forward them to Health PEI.

If you have had your special authorization approved, and you DO NOT work for Health PEI

You must complete all three forms below. Completing the forms is necessary to provide you with a VPN and network credentials to access PACS. Once the Virtual Private Network (VPN) and PACS accounts are set up, you will have to log into the Health PEI system via the VPN. Once a successful login is completed, there will be a link in the applications portion of the VPN to access Enterprise Imaging (PACS), and you will use your provided network credentials to access the application. Please submit these forms to pacs_help@ihis.org and copy the College at contact@peicpt.com.

You have access to PACS. You can begin ordering now!

If you already started this process on your own

You do NOT need to resubmit forms.

If you would like to refer a client for an X-ray

Health PEI is asking that if you would like to refer your client for an X-ray to do so using a paper referral. See the document below – DI Requisition Q74-05. On the referral, please include:

  • your name
  • license number
  • working diagnosis
  • views you’d like ordered and the rationale for those views if not typical
  • relative medical information (MOI)
  • your workplace's contact information
  • your personal cell number
  • anyone else who should receive a copy

Your client is then responsible to book and attend the X-ray appointment on their own. It is very important that you verbalize to the patient that they can book an X-ray appointment on skip the waiting room or by calling their local hospital. They should NEVER show up to the hospital without an appointment.

Once the image and report are complete, you will see them on your PACs software under the patient record. You will be the owner of this image and responsible for relaying the findings back to your client and how they should move forwards. In some cases, you will continue with their care, in others, you may need to refer on. Your workplace and personal contact information will be provided to the radiology department in the event they need to contact you, however, you should always provide this on the paper referral. If something sinister or urgent is found, please refer on immediately. The registrar is working on a diagram to simplify the process.

Collecting statistics

The College will be collecting statistics monthly in the HMS portal as of end of January, as this module is still in development.

If you do not have the special authorization for diagnostic images

Any PEIPCT member who would like access to the PACs system to view only images can contact the registrar. This means, if you do not have the special authorization to order X-rays, you can still have PACS installed and view images of your clients.
